Monday and Tuesday adventures

This photo from yesterday doesn’t do it justice, but this is called the Grand Staircase, just W of Escalante, UT, and when you look at it, you can see why it got its name.  It does resemble a staircase…for a giant!  See the itty bitty motorcycles on the road? Grand Staircase, Escalante, UT

So we left the paved road, of course, and traveled on a washboardy gravel road along a ridge called Hell’s Backbone.  It wasn’t ‘hell’ compared to that rocky road we were on outside South Fork I can tell you!  There is Dick taking photos from H’s BB Bridge, built in 1935.  He is looking DOWN at the huge flat rock…

Dick on Hell's BB Bridge

Dick rock climbing

…that he descended to, climbed ON TOP OF to take closer photos, and then successfully returned to the safety of Dear Wife, who was fearful the wind was gonna knock him to the bottom of the canyon!  Boys will be boys, and wives worry.  And pray.

Missy had her own adventure, while we were away.  She saw that she was running around the pilot’s seat when we  first opened the door.  I assumed she had swatted her fave toy under there and was trying to figure out how to get it out.  No, that wasn’t the problem at all.  We hear an ‘eek, eek’ coming from under the seat!  Oh dear!…so Dick gets the flashlight to get a look…in rushes Missy…out she comes with a chipmunk in her mouth!  Dick quickly opens the door.  I scoop up Missy and rush her outside, where she fortunately drops the chipmunk….and he runs off with quite a story of his own to tell his little pals!  Missy, the big bad hunter.  No self-respecting chipmunk will bother us with her around, that is for sure.  Or mouse.  Yes, that was this morning, but he is no longer an issue.  We don’t know how they got inside, but all is well.  Missy will keep us safe.

So this morning after watching the Tour, the Griswolds are moving up the road a short ways to a lake, right after a stop for provisions at a ‘real’ grocery store…as opposed to convenience stores found in these little burgs.  We found a market while out riding on Sunday, but it was closed…and we were out of coffee!  Most convenience stores don’t sell coffee in a can.  You can only buy it freshly brewed in there, and that is not what we needed…but we finally found one can.  Literally.  We are learning how things work out west, partner, and will plan ahead a little better.

Life is good!  Have a great day, y’all!!!

No coffee?? Nooooooooo!!!

I miss chipmunks! Although they would not stand a chance around my mighty hunters. Gandalf can leap and catch a bird in flight. Oh, yes he can! Birds all over the Orchard sang for joy when I stopped letting them go Outside last year!

Have fun, and buy extra coffee!

Big hugs xo

I've been thought that part of the country. We were in a dry county in UT and I asked for a glass of Merlot with dinner. The poor waitress didn't have a clue what Merlot was. Kind of fits with the coffee story.

Dick is much braver than me. I wouldn't have done that, but I can see why you were praying.

Loved the squirrel story. You have a fearless hunter like we do.

Have a terrific day honey. Big hug. :)

Been trying to do some catching up here and it looks to me like you two have been to some truly lovely country on your trip!

Sounds like it's a good thing you've got your Watch Cat on duty, too! I rather doubt you'd want to be driving down the road and have a chipmunk run out from under the chair!

Hope you picked up some extra coffee at the store just in case you come close to running out again. You just have to have back-up on some things!
