Holy humor

P1020834

There  is the story of a pastor who got up one Sunday and  announced to his congregation: "I have good news  and bad news. The good news is, we have enough money to pay for our new building program.  The bad  news is, it's still out there in your pockets."

========

People want the  front of the bus, the back of the church, and the center of attention.

Good foggy morning from Paradise.  Not a whole lot planned for today.  After church this afternoon, Haley and I plan to attend a local choral presentation.  She is now the historian for the chorus, so I’ll be her able assistant today.  Not that she needs assisting.

Have yourself a peachy day…and say goodbye to April already.  It’s a goner!

Food for thought and other stuff

Live with the three Es: Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy
Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a beggar.
Don’t miss any opportunity to hug somebody you appreciate.

Lady Slipper
And enjoy nature, wherever you are.

Isn’t this a beauty?  It is a Pink Lady's Slipper, which is a large, showy wildflower belonging to the orchid family.  Our shorty birthday gal knows how much I love them, so she took this photo and sent it to me.  That makes this even more special.  None of mine are in bloom yet, so now I can enjoy this one.  Any time.

Spring Fest at Young Harris College is calling Joy, Joan and me today.  Hopefully the fog will be gone by the time we get there so that we can enjoy the arts and crafts on display.  At least there is no liquid sunshine!

That’s it from paradise.  Have yourself a peachy day, y’all!

This music will put a little zip in your Friday, y’all!  Rock on…

Little does my mighty hunter know, but these mallards can fly away and avoid her prowess. They are having a bit of a stand off staring contest.

It is a joy watching nature here in overcast paradise, y'all!

Happy, happy day!

P1030140

See that cute shortie up there?  She is 11 today, that “between age” of not being a young child, but not quite a teenager yet.  Age limbo.  That is what this is.  Stuck in the middle.

All too soon you’ll be heading off to college, sweet gal.  Trust me.  Time flies.  It does.  Enjoy each day.  You are a blessing to all of us.  We love you bunches!

Oh, and after she was born, I got to cut the cord to set her free.  She hasn’t stopped since!

Help yourself to some birthday cake!

Happy Bday cake

Celebrate life, honey.  It is very good…especially with YOU in it!

Chilly Monday in Paradise

Someone wanted to see the cards from class yesterday, so I am playing with both the iPad and blogging from there. Hmmm, this photo is not as crisp as I like, but enough detail for y'all to ooh and aahhhh over our project, thankyouverymuch. There were 8 of us, and being the hostess I forgot to take a group photo. Bugger.

There is a rumor that we may have a dusting of snow in the higher elevations tonight. Did I mention that it is chilly??? I thought the calendar indicated it was spring!!!!! Brrr...bugger.

Does anyone have any warm weather they can pretty please send us?

Holy humor

A  minister waited in line to have his car filled  with gas just before a long holiday weekend.  The  attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him.  Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump.

"Reverend," said the  young man, "I'm so sorry about the delay.  It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip."

The minister chuckled,  "I know what you mean.  It's the same in my business."

Haley’s bi-monthly card class is this afternoon—here at my house, which means that yesterday was cleaning day!  I think I’m ready for the gang, not that they care if my house is spotless, but still…it gave me a deadline.  I need that.

I hope you are doing something fun today.  If so, share what it is!

Life is…creative…here in paradise today!

Awards and smiles and stuff

Pardon me while this proud “auntie” brags on Joy’s daughter.  Last night I had the pleasure of attending the YHC Alumni Awards Dinner to watch Melissa accept the 2012 Young Alumni Achievement Award.  She was joint enrolled at the college during her last two years of high school.  After that, she continued her education and is now a pediatrician, married to her best friend.

P1030219

And she is gonna make Joy a grammie next month!

P1030234

We are ALL very excited about this new arrival.  Stay tuned.

And I had the pleasure of talking with and getting a hug from former P1030240Georgia Governor Zell Miller, who has always been an asset to the North GA Mountains.  MM and I have a long history with this gentleman.  He and MM butted political heads many times over the years, but they came to a mutual respect for each other.  Srsly.  He wants MM to come see him.  He will.  With pleasure.

Life is good in rainy paradise.  Have yourself a smiley day, y’all!

Friday stuff

See this messy pile of yarn and ribbon.  Notice the bulging drawer that won’t close?  Lovely…NOT!

Well, before the day is over all of this will be color sorted…

yarn pile

…and then put into these:

storage

…which will then go under a platform bed (after MM gets that built).

Ribbons, scissors, tape measure, and other stuff will then go into the stackable drawers where they belong, sorted, of course.

I’m feeling better already.  Messy is not good.  Mama’s not happy with that.  And if Mama ain’t happy…

But first, back to the regularly scheduled laundry.

Have yourself a peachy day, y’all!

Things left undone

IMGP9429

I has them.  Srsly.  My two besties and I went shopping  (successfully) down to the big cities yesterday, finishing off with a nice dinner at one of the lovely chain restaurants.  It was a perfect girlie day, despite the rain…which we needed.  Most everything I bought was majorly on sale and with bonus coupons (love both!), in addition to the bargain shoes I found for Doodlebug’s growing feet.  Amy loved that I was a good shopper for her.

So today, it is chore day.  Blah, blah, blah.  No details needed for you gals out there, other than I do keep losing my coffee mug, running from room to room doing this and that.  It needs a pager thingy on it like the portable phones all have at the base station!  Then I could easily and quickly find it.  Oh the problems in paradise!  They are mighty indeed.

But it is Thursday, so that means Thursday Supper Group—no cooking.  Not that I dislike cooking, but still…cooks always need a break.  Right?

Have yourself a smiley day.  Life is good in paradise, y’all!

Look at those teeth…again!

alligator log
In the first place, I don’t know why this post didn’t post at 5am, as I set it up the night before to post before Joan, Joy and I headed out to go shopping for the day.

Oh well, stuff happens.  Here it is, second try:

You and I would look at this photo and merely see a log floating in the water.  Not so with wee boys.  They looked down into the water and saw an ALLIGATOR!  An alligator with big teeth that could eat up little boys.  Giggle, giggle.

Grammie, that’s not a real alligator.

Oh really, are you sure???

Yes, Grammie.  It is a log!  It’s OK.  It won't hurt us.

Oh, the imagination these boys have.  They played hard, and then slept like the proverbial log, waking up with lots of hugs and snuggles for me.  Boy do I love that!

Life is never dull with wee boys, but no alligators are allowed!  Ever.

Look at those big teeth!

Tuesday stuff

So what's going on today?

Lunch with the ladies, followed by the arrival of these two wee hot rods for the afternoon.

Life doesn't get much better than that, unless it involves water and a boat. Right?

And chocolate melting cakes! Sweet dreams...

Holy Humor

A Sunday School  teacher began her lesson with a question, "Boys  and girls, what do we know about God?"

A hand  shot up in the air. "He is an artist!" said the kindergarten boy.

"Really?  How do you know?"  the teacher asked.

"You know - Our Father, who does art in Heaven..."

So last night we ate well, laughed a lot, played marbles, ate dinner, ate CAKE.  This one:chocolate bday cake

Triple Chocolate Cake…and the recipe can be found here.  Oh so easy and good, and it doesn’t even need a frosting, just a sprinkling of powdered sugar.  Yum.  Almost half a cake came home with us, if anyone wants a slice.  Yum.  Oh, I said that, but it is worth repeating.

Save the Earth.  It's the only planet with chocolate!

Have a peachy Sunday, y’all!

Happy birthday, Joy!

Joy, orchids

This sweet sista is having a birthday today!  No, these are not her very own orchids (although she has at least two green thumbs!).  She and dtr Melissa were at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens recently.

All of you have some cake and leave a little bloggy love for this soon-to-be-grammie.

12-Layer_Chocolate_Cake

We are looking forward to celebrating with you tonight!  And many more birthdays!!!  Love ya…

Cell phone caper

cell-phone-clipart-picture

MM has loved Jason’s cast-off old flip phone.  It is water resistant (for those rides on the jet ski), is orange (easy to spot when it falls into grass), and is simple to use.  Until the charger thingy part won’t work.  Then, it is worthless!

No problem.  Friend Matt has (a discarded one) just like his damaged phone, and will give it to Dick.  Matt even delivered it to Jason and Amy’s house and put it on their kitchen counter.  What a friend!  Only problem was, we didn’t know it had been delivered.

Remember that is the very same home where two wee boys live?  Can you see where this is going?

MM  got the message that the phone was next door, so he went over to retrieve it.  Simple.  No way!  The cell phone was missing from the bag.  MM looked high; he looked low.  No phone.  HELP!

After much coaxing (bribing—whatever!) of two wee boys, Jason finally got Scooter to admit (after Scooter learned that he was NOT in trouble) that he took it in his pocket over to Sloan’s house…and left it there.  Doesn’t every 3 y/o need a cell phone in his pocket?!  We were just happy he remembered where he had left it!

Problem solved (until MM loses this one).

Don’t you just love a happy ending?  Smiles, y’all!

Happy Friday the 13th!!!

Chilly Thursday

Epcot butterfly topiary

Blackberry Winter is here, but only briefly, so the weather person says.  It always happens.  Always.  The middle of April, and our heat is on.  Bugger.  It was 29 this morning.  Go away!  Go visit Barb in south Georgia with no A/C!!!

So I got about halfway done with my judging yesterday and gave that half to Joy at lunch, then finished up the other half in the afternoon.  We’ll get together to finish up and compare notes and make a final decision.  We take our judging job very seriously!

MM came home awfully dirty yesterday.  And tired.  He is making progress, if dirt and grease is any indicator.  He is moving a bit slow this morning, bless his heart, but who wants to go work outside when it is cold?!  Not me for sure.  I’ll keep my inside job.

Make some smiles today.  Life is chilly but good in paradise, y’all!

Wonderful Wednesday

KC warm floor

You want me to do what?  No way…I heard you tell Dad it was 34 outside.  This warm floor is MINE.  All mine.  Forget going outside.  Yawn…time for a nap.

No nap for me, even if I wanted one.  I have a stack of essays to read today to judge contestants for Woman of the Year and Chapter of the Year for an Atlanta BSP area council…along with my other half of Wonder Woman—Joy!  Fortunately, all the applicants will be nameless to us, because we probably know many of them personally, and we do not want our judging to be tainted in any   way.  Oy, wish us luck!  We’ve gotta get these back in the mail soon.

MM is diagnosing a problem he has with one of his big, mighty machines (read:  Expensive!).  Fortunately, he got it for a bargain price, because he is going to be spending a chunk of bucks getting it repaired.  He thinks he has narrowed down the problem, and is off to check part numbers.  And prices.  Ouch…but it’s gotta get fixed and back on the job.  Period.

So that life here in sunny, chilly paradise today.  And it is still good, watching the leaves erupt and fill out the tree branches.  I love spring…and want it back!  Brrr…

Happy smiles, y’all.  Let the judging begin!

So long!

Bob: Don't put this on your blog.
Me: why?
Bob: Because we always look goofy.
Me: That's because you ARE goofy.
But we love you anyway. And will miss y'all.
See you next month. And in another state. A new adventure is brewing. Safe travels to NH.
Gosh, the house is too quiet.
Come back, goofy relatives!!!

Hoppy Monday!

P1030121

Brian, Faith, and Lil Haley all gussied up for Easter yesterday.

P1030123

And Haley and me in our wraps—it was chilly!  MM, Logan and the girls were already downstairs in line for the Easter Feast that was yummy and quite plentiful.  We’ve got a bunch of good cooks in our church.

Bob and Lynne arrived in time for taco soup last night.  Today we are all putzing around doing a little of this and that…and eating chicken here tonight.

Did I mention that we love having our family around here?

Life is good, y’all.  Happy Monday!

Happy Easter!!!

Easter bunny

All I need to know, I learned from the Easter Bunny!

Don't  put all your eggs in one basket.

Everyone  needs a friend who is all ears.

There's  no such thing as too much candy.

All  work and no play can make you a basket case.

A  cute tail attracts a lot of attention.

Everyone  is entitled to a bad hare day.

Let happy thoughts multiply like rabbits.

Some body parts should be floppy.

Keep  your paws off of other people's jelly beans.

Good things come in small, sugar-coated packages.

The  grass is always greener in someone else's basket.

To  show your true colors, you have to come out of your shell.

The  best things in life are still sweet and gooey.

May  the joy of the season fill your heart.

AND  MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS!

Alleluia…He is Risen…alleluia!

Saturday stuff

Easter lamb

Good morning from foggy north Georgia!  MM and two kitties are still snoozing.  Me?  Some blasted alarm went off at 6a.  Again.  You’d think during the light of day I would remember to look for that offending sound, but no, I haven’t.  Yet.  Today is the day to seek and destroy!!!  I do not like waking up before the sun comes up.

Bob and Lynne arrive tonight for a few days, so I am motivated to get a few chores done, using them as my goal, not that they would notice whether the moho is totally emptied……………or if my desk is cleaned off.  But still…motivation.  I needs it.  Srsly.

Come on, Sun.  I need you, too!

So, do you have big plans for Easter celebration tomorrow?  Our church always has a huge Easter Feast and egg hunt after the service, so that is our big to-do.  I am making “Confetti Salad” to take this year, rather than my usual Marinated Roma Tomatoes.  I’ll post the recipe if it is good.

And now I’ll go find that blasted alarm!  Smile!!!

New neighbors

new neighbors

I can just barely see these new neighbors through the trees across my cove.  Jason and Amy are starting a small bee colony!

They are not majorly going into the honey business; they just want enough for themselves and family and friends.  Lucky us!  I’ll round up some mason jars for sure.

I am also learning a bit about bees from them as they go along.  They are mighty interesting critters, and are obviously very vital to the pollination of crops.  I think they will be quiet neighbors as they go about their honey business.  I won’t bother them if they won’t bother me!

The wee boys are excited about this whole process, but they are especially looking forward to their first taste of real home made honey.

Sweet!  Well, except that Jason has already gotten stung once.  Ouch!  But that is one of the hazards of being a beekeeper.

So that’s our newest excitement here in paradise.  Have a fabulous Friday, y’all!

Rut roh!

cord2

So I may have '’just cause” to fire my trusty office assistant.  KC decided it would be fun to teethe on my iPhone sync cable yesterday.  See the exposed wires?  I can attest to the fact that it will short out and overload the port when bare wire is exposed.  Do not let this happen, ppl!  There goes KC’s pay raise, if he gets to keep his job.  He is being a paperweight now, to show what a good and useful boy he is.  Gotta love him!

I am happy to report that I found white electrical tape at the big box store, so my cord should be good to go again.  Black tape on the white cord would have been sooo TACKY, right?  At least the port works, after rebooting my machine.

Scooter came over for a visit late yesterday, followed by a burst through the door from his mom---busted!  He did NOT have permission to leave his yard, despite his intentions being honorable.  He got into a wee bit of trouble.  Boys seem to do that.

Life is certainly never dull here in Paradise.  May you have sunshine in your heart today.  I sure will.

Birthday bash!

This was the calm before the crowd arrived.  Amy kindly used a shower chair, rather than a potty chair, for the birthday gal’s place of honor!

P1030064

Haley was VERY surprised (or so she seemed!).  Logan did a great job pulling it all together with his assistant sister-in-law:

P1030084

Amy found lots of old photos to decorate the table:

P1030071

P1030069

P1030072

And of course there was cake (and Key Lime pie):

P1030085

And lots of gag gifts, in addition to some very good stuff:

P1030092

It was a mighty fine evening with family and friends…the very best of folks to celebrate with, of course!

How blessed we all are.

Haley, the next 40 will fly by.  I know.  Life is grand, y’all!  Enjoy every minute of it.

Monday in Paradise

Mr. Sunshine is trying to burn off the last of the morning fog. Birds are chirping, kitties are going in/going out. They do not mind the cooler temps. Me either, since it warms up as the day progresses.

Lots to do today, including an MRI on this pesky hip of mine. MM's eye is doing well, Scooter is doing well...and so will I. I declare it SO.

Hello, dogwood. Your leafy partners are trying to catch up with you. Hmm, a wine bottle has fallen. Where's my yard boy?

Have a great Monday, y'all!

Holy Humor

stained glass crossThe minister was  preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to  ask the congregation to come up with more money than they were expecting for repairs to the church building. Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was sick and a substitute had  been brought in at the last minute. The substitute wanted to know what to play.

"Here's a copy of  the service," he said impatiently. "But, you'll  have to think of something to play after I make  the announcement about the finances."

During  the service, the minister paused and said, "Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty; the  roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected and  we need $4,000 more.  Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up."

At that moment, the substitute organist played "The Star  Spangled Banner."

And that is how the substitute became the regular  organist!

Put a smile on your face…and share it with someone today.  No foolin’!!!  Happy April, y’all!
