Happy, Happy 2016!

I wish I knew who to give credit to for this image, but it fits us quite well as we sit here in balmy W Palm Beach, bringing in the New Year.

Of course we will be eating black-eyed peas today.  You do know this old southern tradition, right?

The oldest explanation for this tradition I found is on Wikipedia. According to Wikipedia, the tradition dates as far ancient Egypt. During the time of the Pharaohs, it was believed that eating a meager food like black-eyed peas showed humility before the gods, and you would be blessed.

It's also said that if you eat only black peas, and skip the pork, collard greens and the accompaniments, the luck won't stick. They all work together or not at all.

So, we will take no chances...Black-eyed Peas Supper (thanks to friend Barb) and greens are also on the menu.  I am southern, through and through.

Start the New Year off right.

But not like sister Nan did.  Oy...yesterday, she fell on her wet back steps and broke her ankle.  She had surgery last night involving pins and pain, so she will be out of commission for a long time.  Prayers needed!  Bless her heart.

Happy New Year, y'all!

First of all tons of prayers for your sister Nan. Ouch. That had to hurt something awful. Bless her heart.

I don't care for black eyed peas, but the greens and the pork I'm all in. Hubby fixed a mess of greens a couple of weeks back. Brought back childhood memories.

Have a fabulous first day of 2016 honey. Big hugs to you and tons of scritches to the babies. ♥♥♥

We had a somewhat untraditional Hoppin' John: soup beans, bacon, spinach (cooked in a little bacon grease) and biscuits. Our health, wealth, and luck may or may not stick, but we tried! Happy 2016! We're sending prayers Nan's way for a speedy recovery.

Oh, crap. Poor Nan! My mother broke her ankle slipping on some ice in her yard... not long before moving to Florida and away fro the frozen winters of the nawth. Prayers for a speedy healing to Nan.

I also made black-eyed peas yesterday and we had my parents over for a late lunch. Instead of black-eyed peas supper I made Hoppin' John, with thanks to PW. I opted to add some suggested extras - diced tomatoes and some leftover ham. We all declared it really, really gooood and so it will remain in my recipe basket. As luck would have it, there was enough leftover to send some home with my grateful parents, so more good luck to all of us for another meal. But not today... today I am making PW's mini-cheeseburgers. :)

Hope your day is lovely. I l=know it will be warmer than mine. big hugs xoxo

Happy New Year Sandy. I wish I was there. Black - eyed peas, I don't think I've ever tasted them. Are they like the regular green peas? Also, the photo you have shown to us is beautiful. I wish I was there also.

Have a beautiful Saturday Sandy. See ya.
