Sad, but true. Mama and papa mallard have been back to the pond for the past few days. No chicks in tow. We are sad. No new ducky duckies to expect next spring to produce new generations of mallards who repeat the process. Nature can be sooo cruel.
Maintenance Man has been at the shop repairing a mower or two for the past few days. He said he watched our resident fox yesterday sitting in the driveway next to the shop, just grooming himself and snapping at an annoying fly. That would be the part of the driveway TOO near the house, dang it. I want him/her to go into the woods...there are literally miles of woods beyond us, but no, this critter chooses to stay close by. Is this what KC tangled with? No way are my babies going outside any time soon. No sirree.
So today is hair cut day, along with a few chores. Excitement. We has it.
Life is good, despite being chick-less. I can hope for fox-less.

So sorry about your ducks. ALL of my geese are gone. Even Mama and Papa. So, so sad. They disappeared around TS Andrea. At first I was hoping that were hunkering down for the storm, but they never returned. Another very bad year for the geese here. Since Mama and Papa are also missing, I'm wondering if we'll have any at all here next year.
Hopefuly Mr. Fox will bugger off. We saw a fox once or twice but luckily, he was just passing through. Hopig for fox-less for you, too. ANd the furry felines.
Big hugs xoxo
It's nice to be in the country, but there are critters to deal with and you're doing just that. Keep your kitties inside. I'd do the same.
Have a terrific day honey. Big hugs from cool but sunny California. ☺
i wonder if the fox got the mallards too... sorry honey.
