Which upgrade to get???

That is the question. Do I go from 4 to 4s, or move on up to 5?
Dan and Joan are new to the iPhone world, so the three of us went to a free tech class last night to learn some operational tips on the 4s and iPad. It was a pretty basic class, and some of the folks were not even iPhone owners, there just to learn more about them.

My goal was to do some comparison shopping, so the instructor nicely printed out some info for me. Sure the 5 is slimmer, but it is taller and it uses different accessories (groan). More stuff needed (4s—no new stuff needed). The major big change the instructor pointed out is that the 5 is 4G, not that Mayberry has 4G yet, but it will, so that may be reason enough to upgrade to the 5, rather than the 4s.

I would love to have comments on pros and cons between now and December when my contract is up and I can upgrade.

MM just needs help finding his phone this morning, bless his heart. He remembers using it after lunch yesterday…and the battery was almost dead, so calling it may not do us any good.

Is it Monday again?!

That’s life today here in foggy paradise, y’all!  At least the phone is now found---still in his truck.

i would say never go backwards, get the 5. i LOVE mine, and i also love siri but like to play with her head! ha... seriously, would you buy an outdated computer now? because that is what you would be doing.

just my 2 cents...

hugs, bee

My 4S is 4G, too! Just so ya know.

I'm with Bee... never go backwards. Of course, if paying $50 gets you a phone that will do everything you need and want, why pay $200 for a phone with features you don't need or want? I upgraded my 4S to the iOS 6 operating and got most of the upgrades that come on the 5. Well, the ones I wanted anyways.

I try not to cave to impulse buying. I try to make a list of pros and cons and treat it as a practical business decision. TRY. It doesn't always work. :)

My 1st iPhone was the 3. I skipped the next 2 upgrades because I didn't feel the upgrades were worth the money. When the 4S came out I jumped on it! I wanted Siri and I wanted Facetime... but mostly I wanted the 8 Megapixel camera!! I use the camera always (as you know!), I use Siri often but once I got over the novelty of Facetime I realized that Skype is much better and far more stable so I absolutely never Facetime anymore.

That's my 2 cents!

Have a lovely day in Mayberry! It sure is noisy here! big hugs xoxo

Oh... and I still have the original iPad, because I couldn't see that any of the new upgrades were worth spending another $800. I am still very happy with my 'old' iPad and use it absolutely every day. Of course, it's hard to imagine that 2 years old is OLD just because 2 newer models have been released. :)

I'm glad you got to compare, since you probably knew most of what the class was about. I'm no help on the advice, though. :-)

I love my 4S and am quite content with it. I would only upgrade for a better camera. But that's just me. Since I cannot afford to change, I am sticking with my trusty 4S. It's only 6 months old, anyway. A baby, but it already has over 3000 pictures!! :)

I don't have any of this, nor do I want any of this. We pay 13.99 a month for a cell phone. Way old plan and it works for us.

Have a terrific day. Big hugs honey. :)

trade up to 4G. It will pay off when you travel. You're in the Atlanta area a lot. Makes sense.

I'm with MM. I'm constantly losing my phone.

Ciao Sandy!
No idea what the thing is, I bought a blackberry and I know only a bit.
At the present I cannot use it, but only for calls!
Have a lovely time!
big hugs!

First things first - my sincerest condolences on the loss of Maddy though I'm sure she's romping around with her cousins gleefully now and congratulations to your cousin Jenni on her awesome accomplishment!

Now as for what phone choice ... I have a 4S and it's great while Amanda has a 4 and thinks hers is just as great. I guess it just really depends on what you think you're going to need and get the most out of. I personally have an issue with buying the latest and greatest until it's been out long enough for the kinks to get worked out but that's just me as I know that lots and lots and lots of folks will give up a perfectly good phone like a 4S just so they can get the 5 and have the newest thing out there.

Oh, and I've used Facetime or Skype though Jamie and Amanda both love Skype. I guess there's just no one I really need to see to talk to but then again, that's just me!
