Hobo supper and other stuff

A Redneck fire starter is how you begin a hobo supper:

With a good woman who has first cut up and packaged all the vittles:

And for dessert…S’mores!

S'mores boys

Followed by some special knot tying lesson from Grumps.  Listen and watch carefully, now, ya hear?:

These are a few of my favorite things…here in Mayberry…where we have lots of simple pleasures.

Goodbye, September.

Critter crowd!

Check out all 31 critters and one lonely cactus:

Rod was commissioned for 30 pieces, but he made 32---he had Amy and me each pick out anything we wanted. Amy chose a large standing fish for her fishermen, and I picked the angel.

He was grateful for the use of our shed and wanted to show his appreciation. His mama raised him right!

They need to be cleaned up and have a protective coating applied, but someone else will do those chores. Rod has left the shed, headed home.

And MM is on equipment retrieval duties today. Safe travels, guys!

The mountains are mighty cool this morning. We are loving this fall weather, and know that the days are getting much shorter now that we have worn out September.

My thoughts are turning to making Thanksgiving plans. It will be here in about 3-4 days, it seems. Sheesh. Time is flying. But we enjoy the ride.

Life is too short to waste precious time on things and thoughts that don't promote happiness.

Choose happy...and have yourselves a ginger peachy day, y'all!

Goodbye, NC!

KC has kept your chair warm, MM, but I am looking forward to you kicking him out!  You have been “too long gone.”IMG_0931

Mowing Man is bringing the Airstream home today from NC.  The job was only three hours away, but it meant he couldn’t be home every night.  Bugger.  We did not like that, but he was helping out Jason’s major surveying client.  Major client.  Getting paid for working didn’t hurt either.  Plus, MM loves playing, um, working with all his toys, and is quite good at what he does, but it is time to park them.

Tomorrow he will go back up with the big truck and trailer to bring home all the equipment.  D fer done, not that there isn’t more to do, but MM isn’t going to be the one to do it!

We have travel plans and stuff that needs to be done before we can leave.

Where are we going you ask?  Well, we are going to Boston for a wedding.  And there might just be a cruise thrown in.  OK, there is.  Stay tuned.

Happy first fall Saturday.  I predict cool temps, sunshine, a load of dirty work clothes, and the need to empty a small refrigerator this afternoon.

It’s just another Mayberry day…where life is good, y’all!

Friday in Mayberry

This little piggy...

...times 4! The boys were pretty; BBQ was awesome!

MM sent me another before/after. He saves 3 guys from lots of manual labor putting all this into a chipper (that is not even on the job):

Today is HIS final day on the job. Hooray!!!

Life is good, y'all!

Shark and dragon attack!

Love these goofy guys:

Whew...first Joan and I went to our line dancing class, then I planted the liriope that Joan dug up yesterday (sweet friend, but she didn't offer to plant it for me!), and now I have my cute boys for awhile.

They don't know that I am taking them and meeting Amy for BBQ later with our Thursday group of friends. The boys will be good, I am sure.

It's just another day in paradise, y'all!

Look before you...sit!

I almost had a squished boy. No wonder he wasn't on our bed this morning:

He was a chair warmer and almost a kitty pancake.

Get ready to work, my KC assistant!

After another nap.

So you are wondering what Rod created?

And these two guys:

These playful bears will actually be holding hello/go away signs! And promise to do NO harm.

It is raining today, so Rod is doubly grateful for the dry shed to do his creating. And we are happy just for rain...and another day in paradise.

What are you grateful for today?

Two Shoes Tuesday

Can y'all believe that MM bought me two pairs of flip flops?! I couldn't either, since he razzes me about having TOO many shoes.

Cute, huh?

Thanks, honey. You're the best!

Rod is still creating:

He has 4 or so of these flying eagles done already, all different, of course. He said he was gonna begin on a different type of eagle next. Of course I will be stopping by and checking them out.

Amy did our mowing yesterday, since both our guys are too busy earning a buck and the sistas are coming here tonight for a meeting, so she wanted the yard to look good...or at least better.

Thanks, honey. Y'all are great neighbors. I also get Will for the day today. Nice trade off...for me.

Will had a ball at his soccer game yesterday and even scored a few goals.

Mayberry is pure paradise. We love our small town living, where just about everybody knows your name, your kids, your grand kids...and sometimes the dog.

Have yourselves a ginger peachy day...wherever you are. You only have one chance at today!

Artist at work

Begin with big chunks of white pine, a chain saw, a creative eye, and a steady hand:

Make lots of noise, and leave a pile of bark and sawdust:

And produce works of art:

More pieces will follow as Rod creates these beautiful eagles for the project down in Macon where MM was mowing this summer. He will be working up at our shed until Saturday, then he has to move on to his next project.

It is fascinating watching him work. He is paid to travel all over the US to showcase his skills at various functions, festivals, etc. No, he doesn't sell his stuff to John Q. Public, since he already has enough projects to keep him busy. Not that this is my cup of tea anyway, but I do appreciate the creativity of taking a chunk of wood and turning it into something other than firewood.

Every day is a gift, Peaches. Enjoy it. I sure will. Life is chilly and good in Mayberry!

Another Before/After

This is about 1 day's worth of mowing/mulching that you can see. There are much larger areas mulched out of camera range, worth about another day of work.

Just another day at the office for MM.

Dan said he needs to learn how to color between the lines! Silly Dan.

Have yourselves a ginger peachy Saturday. Ours is a little wet. And cool. Fall is coming.

Hard working man

Mowing/Mulching Man sent me this "before" photo:

This is part of 187 acres that he has been working on over the mountain in North Carolina.

Here is an "after" shot:

You do not want to see a photo of his dirty laundry...or the bill for all the parts he has had to buy.

One more week and the equipment comes home and gets parked. D fer Done!

I am heading to line dancing class shortly. To the right, to the right...

My job is much more fun.

It's just another Mayberry day. Hope you have yourselves a ginger peachy day, y'all!

Missing in action

Cork wreath

Good Monday morning!  The fog has now lifted, both outside and (mostly) inside.

I woke up with a bugger of a migraine Saturday that laid me low for most of the weekend.  I get maybe one a year, and was somewhat overdue on that annual calendar, so I made up for it all weekend.  Bugger.

About the only accomplishment I got done was to upload some CDs into my computer, then download them into MM’s iPod.  My guy needed some new tunes to keep him happily working!  He is back on the job today, mulching holly trees and opening up lake views.  Next week is his final week on the job.  Hooray!  He’s getting tired of mulching and fixing.

He is at least having fun researching for another cruise, this time to Hawaii.  I’m sure he will find something, sooner or later.  Stay tuned, Peaches!

Meanwhile, Monday means laundry and normal boring stuff, but I do have a bright spot—a sweet lunch date.  I am picking up Will from pre-school and will have him for the afternoon.  Lucky me!

It’s just another day in paradise, y’all!

Friday the 13th

Don’t jump, KC!  No chance.  Actually, he is on duck duty, making sure they stay in the water where they belong and not get up on the dock, much less the deck.

KC duck watching

See how our lake is disappearing?  That is normal for September, since this is a TVA lake that draws the water down now in preparation for the winter.

Missy was checking out the noisy crows.  And I do mean noisy!  She guarded the deck well.

Missy on deck

So, have you backed up your computer information recently?  Trust me, DO IT NOW!  Sigh.

My local hard drive back up recently died;  and its replacement will be installed Tuesday.  I do have cloud back up, and I normally back up to my flash drive often (financial stuff ALWAYS).  But…yes, Peaches, there is a but…I hadn’t backed up my recent Excel and other files for a few months.  Shame on me!  I know better!  I do a lot of work in a few months for business, sorority, church committees, and just stuff…and a “few months” translates to loads of information possibly needing to be recreated.  Not good.

What happened was that I shut down my computer for a Windows updates last night, fired it up today, and couldn’t get beyond the password screen.  Black screen with a cursor…and a curse-e.

A quick text to my techie guru, instructions to hit F8, a reset of the computer, and I am now back in business.  And yes, I am backing up and copying files to the flash drive AND the kitchen computer right now!  I am not waiting for Tuesday and the external hard drive to get here.

Lesson learned.

Consider this your PSA for Friday the 13th and avoid the grief, my friends, and have yourselves a ginger peachy Friday!

Another Mayberry day

Cooling down after a line dancing class with Joan, watching my monkey play on the playground:

He was a good boy during class, happy playing on the iPad...Grammie's helper.

MM is off doing more mulching than mowing, it seems. This piece of property has lots of small holly trees that need to get gone, and his mower does an excellent job of that; however it causes some expensive breaking of parts. He is not a happy mower right now.

I bought some more tunes to add to his iPod. He needs some new ones, as he goes round and round. And back again. It's the least I can do to help.

Life is never dull in Mayberry, especially with my little buddy. We are making good memories.

Monday in Mayberry

Unpacked and washing, with my sweet Missy assistant. KC woke me up and has bailed on me already. Slacker.

Jekyll was hawt, but lovely and fun with the sistas.

Love our 61 here this morning.

How cute are these?!

And these table favors:

And twins!

We dropped Karen off at her niece's house on the way home. Some serious squeezing went on there...and will continue with Auntie Karen for a few days. Twins AND a 2 y/o. Yikes. Some serious cute.

Convention next year will be this same weekend in the Atlanta area. Check. On my calendar.

Have yourselves a ginger peachy day. I will, back home on mountain time. MM? More mowing!

All good things must end...

Final online chapter shot this morning. These ladies travels from all over to join our GA state convention.

We have had a blast, but it is time to leave and head home, taking back wonderful memories until we meet as a group this time next year, in the Atlanta area. That rocks!

Reality sets in tomorrow when I have to fix my own breakfast. Bugger.

Life is good with sistas, y'all! Keep calm, and get home safely.

Saturday stuff

Land chapter gals last night:

The DJ showed us how to so the shag...which is a couples dance. Umm, this is a ladies convention. Duh! We so have a few guys here, but still. It was a dud project, but he did play some tunes we could line dance and twist to...finally. My gang left early. That says a lot, because we are the dancers who usually close down the place. Oh well...

Today we had two forums. One was of the history of Jekyll Island, and the other was presented by the major rep from our International office. Laura is a hoot, so it was very enjoyable.

We just had a nice lunch, and they are calling Beach Bingo. Joy is playing my card while I blog. What a friend she is!

Heading out on the island shortly for free time; dinner and entertainment later.

Having fun. WYWH!

Life is good, y'all.

Dinner photos

I can't edit out that sideways photo from my iPad with this slow Internet, so let's try again with a different photo:

Ad show off my plate:

Grilled GA shrimp with garlic-cheesegrits and black eye peas. Yum...

And a group photo of Online Betas and friends:

Hello from Jekyll Island!

We had a smooth trip south yesterday, stopping once to shop where we each scored some nice stuff. We ate lunch at a gas station!

OK, so it USED to be a gas station. It was definitely a no-frills place, and a popular spot in Greensboro, GA. The pork was good; their only BBQ sauce too spicey for me...wuss, yes.

After lots of hugging and talking upon arrival at our hotel, a dozen of us took the hotel bus over to a restaurant for some local seafood.

Next, back to Carolyn's room for a wee gift exchange (tradition that the online gals have)...and some serious relaxing.

Registration for the attendees begins at noon today, so that is our first goal of the day, then lunch on the water, followed by high tea later. We eat well on these weekends! And a party tonight.

Girls just wanna have fun...and it is only just beginning.

Hugs and smiles from Jekyll, y'all!
