If it's Tuesday, it's the Griddle...

Breakfast for lunch.  I like that.  And visiting with friends.  And making plans for our upcoming trip.  Friday is rapidly approaching.

So where are we going?  To Washington, DC!  We have reservations at a campground in Maryland for the moho and for the fifth wheel.  Lots of fun stuff are in the works.  The wee girls have the Smithsonian high on their want-to-visit list.  Of course we could spend the whole week there, but there are many other places we want to visit, so we'll have to pick and choose and prioritize.

High on the list to visit is the National Cathedral.  We have close family ties there, so this is a definite.

Any suggestions of other places to visit?

Chilly Monday in Paradise!

We’ve got the heat on for the first time this morning, with it being 36 outside.  Brrr.  These chilly temps are necessary to ‘set’ the fall colors, and to get us a bit prepared for Old Man Winter.  Of course we’ll bail out and head south right after Christmas.  But still.

So Haley wants to know what a potato pearl is.  I tried several photos of the bracelet, but none of them get the details very well.  Sigh.  They are simply pearls that are potato shaped, as far apart in quality as cotton is to silk with all the grooves on some of them, but they appeal to my eye in their funkiness and to my wallet in price:

I strung these pearls on gold wire so that it will be tough enough for daily wear.  If I want to wear it daily…and chances are good for that happening.  Jeans and pearls go together quite well.

That’s your fashion tip for the day, y’all!

Have a super Monday…

Sunday sox

Dick calls me the Sox Queen, so don’t tell him that I bought more, but how could I resist these…

IMGP2062

…or these…

IMGP2061

She doesn’t show up well, but that is a pretty pink flamingo hiding in that line of green trees on the black sox.  These were majorly on sale, so they just had to come home with me…and will feel sooo good on my tootsies.

Dick is off four wheeling with Amy, Jason and friends, while I keep the wee boys this afternoon.  Maybe I can get some beading done while they are napping.  That sounds like a plan!  I made a potato pearl bracelet the other day, but that’s all I’ve gotten done this week on bead playing.  What’s up with that?  Something is wrong with that picture!

Enjoy your day…and another pearl of wisdom:

Saturday in Paradise

So yesterday Joan and I accomplished a lot while we were out shopping.  I did buy 3 pairs of Crocs that were half price, but don’t tell Dick about them, OK?  He may still have me on a shoe buying ban, but I am passing along to the thrift store at least three pairs of shoes that don’t feel or look so good anymore, so this is a wash, right?  I did find him a nice pair of black shoes that were 80% off (he wins the price for the best deal of the day, dang it).
And today Joan and I bought some nice veggies at the farmer’s market, where one nice farmer gave me the two piddly turnips that I wanted for a batch of soup (I didn’t want the whole bunch).  I tried to pay him, but instead he told me ‘God bless ya,’ so of course I gave him a smile and a big hug, along with my thanks!  Mayberry is such a nice place to live.
Then we were off to a local church that has a fab craft sale each year.  I brought home two BBQ plates for our dinner tonight.  Joan even found a new boyfriend.  Do you think Dan will be jealous of this guy?

So how is your weekend going?  Life is good here in Paradise.

Redneck Stonehenge

stonehenge hay

This piece of hay art wouldn’t be too difficult to construct…for someone with just a bit of patience and the proper equipment.  Dick could do this one.

So today friend Joan and I are going shopping.  We’ll try to stay out of trouble, but I’m making no promises.  I may find some shoes!

Dick is off hugging some trees today…they need to be removed, getting sites ready for future homes.  We hope we have future buyers for said sites.  Hmm, maybe I’d better be kind to our bank account today!  Not to worry…

Have a happy Friday, y’all!  How did it get to be October already???

Thursday things...

We have rain back again, and that's OK because we need it around here to keep the forests safe from fire, but still, it makes for a gloomy, gray day.  These flowers brighten everything up just a bit so I'll feast my eyes upon them.

Today would be a great jammie day, but we both need to go to town and get a few things done.  I am re-doing a pearl bracelet and I need to buy a gold toggle.  Hmm, didn't realize I didn't have any, so I'll pick that up locally.  And I will get back to my laptop comparison shopping.  It is proving to be quite a challenge, but I'm up for it...and learning a lot in the process!  Are y'all familiar with WiMax?  And quad core processors??? :)

Life isn't fair, but it's still good!

Have a terrific Thursday, y'all!

Laptop info needed…

I need a new laptop, and I want one that is fast (is the i7 the fastest processor these days?), has Win7, media card slot, HDMI, webcam…all the bells and whistles.  My current Dell Vostro 1500 is 3 y/o, and is getting cranky, despite the new hard drive.  It is not dependable, and it is slow, so it needs to be my secondary machine.

All my programs are windows based, so a Mac isn’t the answer unless I want to buy all new programs (won’t happen!), and the combo machine only runs Windows XP, not Win7, and I really need to move on up to Win7.

So, any suggestions out there?  I spent quite a bit of time on the phone yesterday with the Dell Dude, so I’m trying to get educated before making my purchase.

And I thank each of you for the kind messages about losing my sweet nephew.  Our family is gonna miss him.
