Scooter and Saturday stuff

Sweet Scooter

This sweet boy did not like his IV one bit!  Who does?!  He kept trying to pull it out, so the nurse had to REALLY tape it up.  It’s not easy being 3 and having unwanted things stuck to the body.  He enjoyed a Coke as a treat, and his request when his parents got him to the hotel?  Mac and cheese!  Check.  He got it.  And applesauce.  Good boy.

He is doing well and will be home today.  Thanks so much for all the good thoughts and prayers!  You peeps are important to me!!!

So the goal today before dinner/marbles is to download birthday photos and do neglected paperwork.  Neither got done yesterday, because I seriously needed to get the heavy (old) TV off the guest bed before anyone larger than a wee boy could sleep on it.

Isn’t that where you store your TV?  Well, it HAD been sitting on a desk that Amy needed as a desk, rather than a TV stand, so I made MM go with me to shop for something as a replacement.  A sturdy real wood bookcase did the trick.  The bed is available again…family and friends are welcome.

Life is good at the fun factory, y’all!  I hope yours is, too.

Sweet Scooter!

Old man Will

Can’t you see the pride in this sweet smile—I got dressed ALL by myself!  Amy, of course, let him go to school like this, being the good mommie she is, but being the smart aleck she is, she had to document this to be displayed at his wedding rehearsal dinner.  It’s the right thing to do.

But right now I ask for prayers and good thoughts for our wee snazzy dresser.  He is having his tonsils and adenoids removed and tubes put in his ears this morning.  Me no likey that he has to go through this, but he will be healthier with this fix.

Thanks for the birthday wishes for Haley.  I  will get photos downloaded and posted.  You bet her hubby gave her a surprise birthday party last night!  It was a hoot.

Stay healthy everyone and have a great Friday.

Life is short.  Smile while you still have teeth!

Happy birthday, Haley!

P1020844

Our firstborn is having a “big” birthday today.  She is still looking mighty good…and will certainly survive the shock of entering a new decade.  Dad and I love you!!!

So today for my big welcome home I have two wee helpers (?) all day while Amy goes on a school field trip (thanks for dinner last night!).  At least the moho fridge is unloaded, and laundry is at least started.  What doesn’t get done today can wait until tomorrow.  There is no deadline to finish up…two boys are more important than chores, any day.

Birthdays are a movable feast in our family, so Sunday will be a more convenient day to celebrate when the family can all get together.  Right?

And now, back to the regularly scheduled laundry, wiping a runny nose, and entertaining two energetic rascals.

Anyone want to join the fun?

Wednesday stuff

These honkers were not very welcome with all their noise early this morning. The news from our knee doc was very welcome...no knee replacement needed at this time! Be careful, don't stand for long periods, etc. Check. Okey dokey.

Time to hit the road, jack. Miles and smiles, y'all! Homeward bound.

Goodbye, WPB!

Schefflera hair cut

We shall see in January just how much this tree has grown after its recent “hair cut.”  Enjoy the sunshine and freedom, old tree!  We do appreciate your shade.

MM saw the eye doc yesterday and got really good news:  his fixed eye now has 20/20 vision.  What a blessing!  He is delighted with how well he can see with it.

Yes, Haley, Dad had Both Mushroom Chicken.  It is definitely still on the menu at Shangri-La, and is still tasty.   Key limes?  We’ll see what we can find for the birthday gal.

So today finds us on the road again, heading to Albany.  Why, you ask?  Well, two reasons:  dinner with my sister Nan, and an appointment with the knee doc in the morning….a twofer.

Guess which event will be more fun?!

Lots of miles and smiles today for us.  I hope you at least have some smiles.

Monday stuff

IMGP1997
It all of a sudden occurred to me last night that with the warm weather back in Mayberry, our hummers have probably arrived and are looking for their free lunch…and I am not there to fill up the bottles!  Shame on me.  I will be there soon, babies.  Hang on!

We introduced Bill and Barbara to Shangri-La Gourmet Chinese Restaurant last night.   Even after us being away for over 20 years, we thought it was still good.  And B&B said they would go back, so that was high praise.  And my fortune cookie contained this message: Truth seeks and finds the light of day.

What we’ll be seeing today is the git-er done deadline, with one sleep left here in Florida.

We’ll definitely be ready to pull out in the morning.

Woohoo!!!  Mayberry, here we come!  Can you tell I’m excited?

Holy Humor

minister_tnbA minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn't find a space with a meter.

Then he put a note under the windshield wiper that read:  "I have circled  the block 10 times.  If I don't park here, I'll miss my appointment.  Forgive us our trespasses.”

When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note:  "I've circled this block for 10 years.  If I don't give you a ticket, I'll lose my job.  Lead us not into temptation."

Sounds reasonable!

May your temptations be few today, and your smiles be in abundance.

MM and I are making progress with our projects.

Only two more sleeps in sunny Paradise, y’all!

3 more sleeps in paradise

photo

That’s right—only 3 more sleeps and it will be time to pull out and head north to Home, Sweet Home!

So that means lots of prep work after living here for 3 months.  It is time to put away all the beading stuff before beginning all the major jobs, including spring cleaning.  Yuck.  No fun, but necessary.

MM has to lash down and cover all the patio furniture and stuff that can’t be put away in the small storage shed.  We have to plan ahead for hurricane season, since we aren’t here when they happen (smart planning on our part).

Our two assistants sniff around to check out what we are doing, in between naps, that is.  And getting in the way the rest of the time.  Bless their hearts.

That’s the excitement going on around here.  Life is good in paradise.  What’s your weekend fun?

Got “B” wings?

arms akimboI learned recently that this arms position above is called “beeyoch” wings (you get my drift).  A one-arm position merely means you are p*ssed.  I had to use the above yesterday on MM.  And a few unkind words, like idiot  and crazy.  We do not need him to ruin his eye!  He is not invincible!  Srsly.

He was on top of the moho, cutting down some limbs.  The man just had a cataract removed on Tuesday, for heaven’s sake!  He got a piece of my mind…and quit what he was doing and sat on the patio like a good boy.  Men!

So about yesterday…I arrived at the rec hall for the line dance class only to be told by a group of men that due to the afternoon pool party, the yoga class and the line dance class were both cancelled.  Oh really?  Did anyone bother to let people know?…this said as I am standing there with boom box in hand!  They pointed out the “closed” sign on the door.  Hmm, difficult to see from my moho!  Another idiot, bless his heart.  They needed ALL DAY to set up a few tables?   Oh well…stuff happens.

So instead of dancing, I made some earrings and finished a necklace.  I am flexible.

The pool party was fine.  We ate and left and joined our friends at a restaurant for our goodbyes.  Our time is soon coming to an end here in this paradise.  We leave Tuesday…it’s time to go home.

Sounds good to me.

The best is yet to come!

Busy Thursday

KC office assistant

My handy office assistant will be taking over today, since we’ve got lots of stuff going on all day.

Barbara and Bill are cruising this week, so I am leading her line dance class this morning here at the park.  MM is my Music Man, who will operate the boom box, in Bill’s place.  That’s what friends do.

The annual park pool farewell party is today at 5 (not tomorrow as I had heard it would be), followed by a farewell dinner with friends at 7.  Sheesh.

Everything piles up, but we shall manage to attend and enjoy it all.  And rest tomorrow.  Right!

His eye is doing very well, thankyouverymuch!  I was a bit concerned that when he got his good eyesight back he was going to see that he is married to an old woman.  He’s a smart man and did not own up to that being a fact.  He will live another day!

So how is your day?

Remember:  Don’t take yourself too seriously.  No one else does.

Life is good in paradise, y’all.  I hope yours is too!

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

Happy spring; happy smiles!

MM just got a good report from the doc: 20/25 vision today in his cataract less eye! We are happy; come back next week, thankyouverymuch. Okey dokie.

Thanks for all the prayers. Life is bright and good, y'all!

Tuesday stuff

Dick, Lyn, Terry

At least that light pole isn’t growing out of the top of MM’s head!  This was definitely a quick point and shoot of friends Lyn and Terry, with no time to line up a good background.  It was sooo good seeing them yesterday.  And the food was of course good as usual.

So this morning is the big cataract surgery for MM.  We would appreciate all good thoughts that it will be a routine, 8-minute surgery, stay for an appropriate time to make sure he is stable and OK, then outta there.

No further news (post) today means GOOD news!

Enjoy life. This is not a dress rehearsal, y’all!
Smiles…

Jay time

John G tee

We are meeting “the Jays” at our fave place today, but for lunch.  Terry and Lyn have NEVER eaten lunch there, so we are fixing that gastronomic lack.  Our families go waay back, so we’ll have lots to talk about…and I just remembered to grab a couple of photos of the chitlins to take to show them.  I promise to TRY to remember to get my camera out during all the talking and laughing and eating.  Really.  I’ll try.

Between rain showers we rode our bikes yesterday, and I also got some beading done.  I took a project out on the patio to sit and watch TV with MM, but discovered that when a bead drops out there, it is GONE.  More beading (inside) today, since the table is littered with projects.

Johnnie, Susan and Christine came over for our modified St. Pat’s dinner Saturday night.  The company was a hit, but the crockpot beef stroganoff--I won’t be posting that recipe, thankyouverymuch.  It was a miss.  Live and learn.  Delete.  Gone.  Never to be repeated.

Life is all about trial and error.  And it’s all good, despite an occasional bump in the road.

Put a smile on your face and have a great Monday.  We will sure be doing both!

Holy Humor

Irish bow

Sunday  after church, a Mom asked her very young daughter  what the lesson was about.

The daughter  answered, "Don't be scared, you'll get your  quilt."

Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed.  Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea, and the Mom asked him what that morning's Sunday school lesson was about.

He said, "Be not  afraid, thy comforter is  coming."

When our own parish church was going from a mission to a ‘real’ church, we had to come up with a name for it, and I was in charge of that committee.  One of our regular summer visitors came up to me and said for me to PLEASE not name our church “Holy Comforter” because that was the name of her home church and her kids mostly referred to it as the Church of the Raggedy Blanket!  We did not pick that name.

Kids are sooo entertaining.

Enjoy some Sunday smiles, y’all!

Cheers!

Wade and Ginger, we missed y’all at the Well last night!

But look who joined us and Bill and Barbara…the Empress Bee!  I literally ran into her at the Walmart yesterday, and she agreed to join us for dinner.  Woohoo!!!  This was her first night time outing since her sweetie left this earth.  It was such a good evening.  I’ll bet Sarge was smiling big.  Dick and I sure were.  And Dick told her during dinner that we are going on the blogger’s cruise in January, so he is now committed.  No backing out!  Get those reservations made, honey.

Sandee and Zane, Barb and Linda—y’all are on notice, ya hear?  Join us for the eight-day fun!!!

Gosh, our time here is rushing right on by.  And there is still lots to do before we leave…people to see…eat at John G’s…beading to finish.   We do have our priorities!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, y’all!  Got your green on?

St. Patrick's Day2

Friday already?

P1030001

Wow, the days are flying by, y’all.  I plum forgot that yesterday was the Ides of March (ingrained in my head by English teacher Mrs. Futch!), but fortunately I did not have to beware of it, as did Julius Caesar!  All was well…I never got around to a blog, since there wasn’t much to report.

There were no mishaps when MM cut down some tree limbs.  And he only has to pull them over to the curb and the park workers haul them away.  Love that!  He isn’t done either.  Our schefflera tree will get a few more shoots removed when we move the moho away from it on departure day.  We certainly don’t want any roof creases!  Safety first, well, except for my metal clothes drying rack, but he fixed that mishap, bless his heart.

So who is cooking corned beef and cabbage tomorrow?  We like it, but MM wants beef stroganoff, and so he will have it.  I plan to try a new recipe in the new crockpot.  We shall see if it is a keeper.  Or not.

Put a smile on your face today and share it.  Life is good in sunny paradise, y’all!

Project man!

picnic table
MM found this picnic table in an owner’s trash pile here in the park, and he asked if he could have it.  Sure!
One trip to the big box guy store to purchase 5 pressure treated boards, remove the rotten boards (who would use regular lumber???), replace with the new ones.  Ta dah…an almost free table!  And all in under an hour, including visit to the store.
picnic table2
Cost of project:  $30, plus a little sweat equity.

Smart guy.  Happy guy.  Hello, new neighbors behind him.

Have a peachy, sunshiney day.  It’s beautiful here in paradise, y’all!

Good job, fisherboy!

Little fisherman

Bringing home the bacon…….…um…fish!  Doodlebug loves, loves to fish, and his daddy is so good about taking him out to perfect his skills with rod and reel.  Safety and sunscreen always.  Good job all around, sweet guys!

So this past weekend granddaughter Macey and I learned how to Facetime together.  She on her iPod; me on my iPhone.  It was easy to do…once I got closer to the internet tower so that I could get a strong signal.  I already knew that I can’t Facetime on my 3G phone service; I have to be on wi-fi, and to have a strong, constant signal, I need to get closer to the tower.   And so I did---in the car, since it was raining.  Ah the learning curve!  I hope to try it on the eyepad thingy with Amy later on today and see those wee boys…and hear about catching the big one from the sweet fisherboy.

Modern technology is wonderful…….when it works!

I highly recommend Barb’s Blackeye Pea Supper Dish.  You can check here for the recipe and photo at Dyer Dining.  I actually forgot to put the cheese on top last night, but will do that when we eat the leftovers.  A little macaroni would also be nice to add next time.  Pasta is always a good thing, right?  Oh the possibilities!

Have yourself a peachy day.  Life is good in windy paradise, y’all!

stained glass

While driving in  Pennsylvania , a family caught up to an Amish carriage. The owner of the  carriage obviously had a sense of humor, because  attached to the back of the carriage was a hand printed sign...

Energy efficient vehicle:  Runs on oats and grass.  Caution:  Do not step in exhaust.

Happy Sunday.  Watch your step, y’all!

Saturday in paradise

P1000944

Sunshine, calm winds, 72…can you say PERFECT?  The local beaches will be filled, no doubt.  Without me, since I am not a sun worshiper, although I do enjoy looking at the beach.

Now being ON the water, is a good thing, especially on a cruise, but we don’t have one booked.  No cruise in our future, instead there will be cataract surgery.  Bugger.

MM needs an eye fixed, so we shall do that soon.  His EKG is done; he sees the eye doc on Monday to do some measurements or whatever, then surgery the following week.  Easy peasy.  We hope.

No particular plans today, which is actually nice.  Share some smiles today.  I plan to do just that!

Friday funny

Goose family

An old man goes to the Wizard to ask him if he can remove a curse he has been living with for the last 40 years.

The Wizard says, 'Maybe, but you will have to tell me the exact words that were used to put the curse on you.'

The old man says without hesitation, 'I now pronounce you man and wife.'

Bless his heart, I’ll bet that wife put him out of his misery pretty pronto!

So who has plans for the weekend?  We head to the Well for a farewell with Wade and Ginger tonight, but that is it.  Nada.  No more plans for the weekend.  Of course, we always find something interesting to do, so it won’t be dull.  No way!  Dull isn’t allowed.

Life is always good in paradise, y’all!  My wish is that you also experience a good life.

Party time!

We threw a nice good bye party last evening for friends Wade and Ginger. About 25 gathered on the patio and the rain mostly held off, and everyone ate, drank, and wished them a fond farewell as they leave. Their lot is sold, and they head to the FL panhandle Saturday. One final night at the Well tomorrow. We will always remember good times! Bon voyage. Life is good! Well, except for NO Internet, y'all!!!

Simple things

carafes

These carafes are mighty handy and among some of my favorite products these days.  The two larger ones are shatterproof plastic.  They are handy especially out on the patio, and the flip lids keep fingers out of the food.   Germs are not allowed!

The short carafe is glass and currently has candy in it.  Sometimes it contains a bouquet of flowers.  Wine?  Oh yes, that is the normal carafe purpose, but no, they have never contained wine!

Multi-use items are very important to have when living in a motorhome.

Do you have a favorite product that you re-purpose?  Please share!  I love getting new ideas.

Chilly Monday

ibis

These recent backyard visitors won’t be doing much flying today with all our wind.  Sheesh.  And it is 53 (I know, I know—Mayberry is expecting snow flurries, which is why we are still NOT there).  MM will have to don jeans today, instead of shorts.  Poor baby.

Actually, MM has to go back to the eye doc this morning to finalize stuff for his cataract surgery before we go back.  Bugger.  We’ll get him patched up and good to go for awhile longer.

The Golden Years merely means that it takes a pot of gold to keep us going!  And so it does, and so we will…keep going.

Life isn't about how you survived the storm...
it's about how you danced in the rain!
So Dance!

Have a peachy Monday, y’all!

Windy Sunday

croquet

The March winds are here in good form this morning ahead of a cold front.  MM is keeping watch on our awning and patio umbrella, just in case they need to be put away.  Rain later on.

Yesterday was perfect for the croquet game.  It was a big crowd and everyone had fun.  MM and I won our two games.  I won’t brag about who the high scorer was.  Our partners there on the R were neat folks.  So was our instructor on the L.  All the officials (and members)  wear white.  I definitely did NOT wear white yesterday.  I knew better than to do that, not wanting to be confused with someone who knew what they were doing!

So I also re-strung three bracelets for a friend, and have a few more odd jobs to do before I can get creative again.  A sweet lady here in the park wants a simple brown bead bracelet, so she will get one.  She’s a honey and doesn’t get outside the park much, so this will give her some smiles.  I like that.

Have yourself a peachy day.  Life is good here in paradise, if we don’t get gone with the wind!

Croquet anyone?

croquet

Croquet is a lawn game, played both as a recreational pastime and as a competitive sport.

Today, MM and I will be doing some recreational playing.  We don’t know enough about it to even consider that competitive part!  And we’ll enjoy the folks and the dinner afterward.

Who knew there are about 200 clubs across the country?  Many colleges have croquet clubs.  This is a game played all around the world.

We’ll have fun.  And the weather is fantastic today.

Sunscreen?  Check.

My heart goes out to friend Barb in the loss of her dear Whitey boy yesterday.  He was one brave kitty, who was lucky to have himself such a loving and caring mama.  Hugs!

Do something to put a smile on another face today.  Everyone wins with that combination!

Life is good, y’all!

Sweet dad

Dick, kitties

Missy definitely prefers her daddy over me.  KC is a mama’s boy.  It must be genetic for them both, because we treat and love them equally.  So when Dick and Missy were cuddling on the couch, he told me to quickly snap this photo to prove that KC came to cuddle.

Smart boy.  Sweet boy.  But it didn’t last for long, but dad appreciated the loving, even though it was brief.  And not the best of photos…just a quick phone P&S (oops, point and shoot).

So just the usual around here today at the fun factory, enjoying this fine weather and doing chores and stuff.  With our able assistants, Missy and KC.  WYWH…to go to John G’s and to the Pirate’s Well.

Have yourself a peachy day.

That’s it from paradise, y’all!

Barbara and the class

This didn't attach earlier...

Thursday grooving

Joan and I joined Barbara's line dance class this morning and learned two new dances.

Now we are ready for lunch, then a nap!

But Dan and Joan are pulling out this afternoon. Boohoo. It has been fun.

Life is good in paradise y'all!
